Visual performance research of call centre VDT operators

    Get PDF
This paper considers different factors related to the visual functions of the VDT operators. The visual performance of the call centre VDT operators is analyzed. For that purpose, the checklists for the human - computer system are used. It is established that some elements characteristic for the computer vision syndrome are present at the VDT operators. The proposal of measures for the improvement of the human - computer interface in a call centre containing the advanced ergonomic design solution for the VDT worktable is given. The presented concept for the VDT worktable is based on the accommodation and convergence principles

SCANAM method for the assessment of industrial noise

    Get PDF
Work in an industrial environment is often associated with high levels of noise. For measuring and evaluating of noise levels, sometimes it is necessary to use several instruments. These instruments can be very expensive and require qualified personnel. Medium and small-sized firms often lack sufficient financial resources to ensure continuous measurement and assessment of noise levels. For this reason, a new SCANAM method for assessing the levels of noise is designed. This method involves the use of cheap and accurate sound level meter and specially designed software for assessing the effects of noise. Application of this method is very simple. Based on a noise sample in duration of eight hours, the accuracy of the SCANAM method was confirmed. Application of this method is significantly cheaper than an approach based on the use of expensive multi-function devices, or separate devices for measuring and assessing noise at the workplace

Ergonomic and electronic designing of muscle stimulator

    Get PDF
The paper proposes a new ergonomic and electronic solution for the muscle stimulator. The device is programmable. It can be easily adjusted by the doctor, as well as by the patient. The design solution of this muscle stimulator has the improved interface. The device is safe to use and has determined ergonomic improvements. This muscle stimulator has small dimensions and light weight. The proposal includes a hardware solution using one of the most advanced electronic components MOSFET created on the basis of silicon carbide. The device has a low consumption. The stimulator has excellent electronic properties, while at the same time it is more suitable for handling and use in relation to existing ones. Presented design solutions also have a positive impact on the economic justification for the application of this device

A Negative Feedback Between Democracy, Human Behavior and Achievement Of A Goal

    Get PDF
This paper aims to point out the negative effect that democracy can have on the achievement of social goals, based on the stimulation of a certain type of human behavior. It is common knowledge that democracy is a civilizational creation that forces decision-making based on a majority vote. In addition, democracy is characterized by freedom of expression, where each individual has the right to express their own opinion. Although these two characteristics of democracy sound promising and logical at first, they do not always give good results in practice. Moreover, in some cases, a democratic approach to achieving social goals can yield extremely poor outcomes. On the basis of a virtual example, which represents a simulation of a real situation, it has been shown how this is theoretically and practically possible

Ergonomics, International Labour Organization and future of work

    Get PDF
The International Labor Organization (ILO) is one of the most significant international organizations dealing with workers' problems. In 2019, this organization celebrated its 100th anniversary. On that occasion, the ILO presented programs for work improvement for the coming period. In this regard, the Director-General of this organization has published a document entitled ā€œThe Future of Work Centenary Initiativeā€. Based on the analysis of this document, it was noted that the ergonomics and its possibilities of contributing to the improvement of the work and working conditions of workers were not mentioned in this initiative, which presents an omission in terms of the possibility to achieve a complete humanization of work. It was also noted that the contributions of some other scientific disciplines in this direction were also not recognized. One of the main contributions of this paper manifests in the identification and systematization of the main areas that have an impact on work improvement. It has been identified 14 such areas. Only by developing all the identified areas and engaging experts in those areas can a comprehensive and complete improvement of the work and well-being of workers in the future be ensured. Part of the paper is devoted to the role of ergonomics in improving the work and position of workers, as well as the possibility of closer cooperation between the ILO and international ergonomic organizations such as the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) and the Federation of European Ergonomics Societies (FEES)

Some problems of implementation of standards in the field of human - computer interaction

    Get PDF
The main purpose of publishing of standards relating to the system human - computer consists in the fact that their application provides ergonomic design of individual system components, but their application also may have to provide safe, efficient and comfortable user experience. Although international standards, such as for example ISO 9241, by their nature and content permit their worldwide application, they are usually implemented in practice and applied within a limited number of countries. This paper discusses some problems related to designing and adoption of standards in the field of human - computer interaction, as well as the difficulties associated with the practical application of these standards

The influence of preventive maintenance of the city water supply network on the safe performance of citizens work activities in the conditions of the COVID-19 virus pandemic - case study

    Get PDF
This paper aims to point out a significant safety omission that may occur if no additional risk assessment is conducted related to the interruption of water supply in a certain part of the city for a long period of time, in the conditions of a Covid-19 pandemic. A case study is presented which indicates the possible consequences of inadequate planning of works on the maintenance of the water supply system in the conditions of a pandemic. The necessity of cooperation between companies that perform the function of supplying the population with water and maintaining the city's water supply network with experts in the field of health and ergonomics was emphasized, in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of pandemic spread in cases of realization of the preventive maintenance of the water supply network are presented
